Alex Bailey
Alex Bailey is a filmmaker and photographer in Toronto. She also thrifts.
Alex produced êmîcêtôsêt: Many Bloodlines, directed by Theola Ross. The short documentary came out of the National Screen Institute's IndigiDocs program and went on to win the Betty Youson Award for Best Canadian Short Documentary at Hot Docs 2020. It was named one of TIFF's Canada's Top Ten Shorts that year and nominated for a Canadian Screen Award.
She directed and narrated VeraCity: You've Been Posted for Citytv. The one-hour documentary follows women whose intimate photos were shared without consent and aired nationally across Canada.
Her commercial work includes spots for Walmart, Aeroplan, Tim Hortons and RBC. Her photography has run in Vogue Germany and VICE.
Online Alex is known for thrifting whole wardrobes on a small budget. Her videos have been watched more than 150 million times and she has about 140,000 followers across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. She has worked with McDonald's, Tangerine, Clairol, Braun, YesStyle and Pet Valu.
She wrote Thrift Book, a magazine and journal about fashion and culture through a thrifting lens.
Alex is the vocalist on four tracks of the Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye soundtrack by Andrew Prahlow: Into Shadow, A Dream of Home, Fear and Ashes and Hearth's Shadow. The game is published by Annapurna Interactive.
